DAILY DRAWINGS

One a Day / Parallel Play

Drawing across time and time zones.
Two friends since kindergarten. My friend the artist Emily Clark lives in New York, I’m here in San Diego.

Every morning since February 2020, we have each drawn one object from observation and texted it to one another.
I grid my 22”x22” paper. Each object within a square or rectangle of the grid is one of my daily drawings. Each sheet includes up to 21 individual daily drawings, and takes about three weeks to complete. So far there are 65 completed sheets.

When we were little, drawing was play, and it might have gone like this:
  “What do ya wanna draw?”
“I dunno. What do you wanna draw?”

Then maybe we would decide to draw elephants, or Mouse Houses (there were so many rooms!)
We sat side by side. She had her paper, and I had my paper. Separate drawings, same activity.
Parallel play.

ALL PANELS ARE WATERCOLOR AND GRAPHITE ON PAPER, DIMENSIONS 22”x 22”
